Why Using a Mobile Scaffold is so Important

Buying a mobile scaffold was hands down, one of the best purchases I've ever made for home improvements and other projects around the house. There are so many great features that positively impacted my decision to do so. Now I only use a ladder on the rare occasion I find a spot that's to tight to fit my scaffold into, but it's very rare.

So why a mobile scaffold over a ladder?

They create a working platform, instead of a step. They're far more stable to work from which makes them safer. It's easier to keep your balance on one then it is a ladder because you can widen your stance giving you more stability.

You have an increased range of motion allowing you to move more freely while working. Anyone who has ever installed a ceiling fan or a new light fixture knows how important this is. Being able to move, twist around or stoop down to grab tools safely is critical. For this reason alone I count scaffolding as a must have.

I think just about all of us at one point in our lives will find ourselves putting up ceiling fans, installing new light fixtures or re-painting a room or two. The list can go on and on. Handling these tasks safely and free from aggravation is a plus.

Here are my three mobile scaffolds that I think are best fit for small projects.

This type of heavy duty mobile scaffold is the best all around and nearly identical to what I use. I chose heavy duty for the sturdiness. Once you are on top and moving around there is not much play in it. I can shift around freely with little movement once the wheels are locked in place.

It's great for performing multiple tasks at once. One of the many benefits it has over a ladder.

I used it to change out a ceiling fan and it worked out perfectly. The work area was large enough that I was able prep the wires coming from the ceiling while the new fan sat on the deck of the scaffold at my feet. Once everything was ready I just swapped the two out. All this without having to run up and down a ladder. It was really convenient.

The deck height can easily be adjusted. All you have to do is take off the wood plank. Pull both pins at once and adjust the rail up or down to the height you want it. Rinse and repeat on the other rail and you're ready for the deck plank.

What's nice is you can achieve the exact height you need. There are adjustment holes along the entire rail so getting closer to the exact height you need is easily achievable. With a step ladder it always seemed like I was either having to overreach or hunch down cause I was a bit to high.

It's narrow enough to fit through a standard door frame. It's just bulky enough for stability, but not so cumbersome that it's hard to move around. Once you have it in place, the wheels can be locked and you're ready to work!

Everything on the scaffold is secured with locking pins. So no need to worry about a wheel falling off if you have to lift it up over a door threshold or jump an extension cord. Once you're done with your task it can be disassembled and stored in a fairly small area. 

Overall I love it. I have used it for many years and will continue to do so for many, many more.

500 Lb. Capacity Portable Folding Scaffold with Work Station

This portable folding scaffold is a smaller version of the one above. The lower weight capacity usually means a lighter weight frame. But don't let that fool you. It's still sturdy enough to hold someone. I'm 180lbs. and stand on ones similar to this all the time without issues.

The work station makes for a nice addition allowing you to organize your tools instead of laying them on the deck of the scaffold. It has all the normal slots for screw drives, hammers and other small tools. It's also fitted to hold small and large paint cans

This thing is perfect for painting. You should have no issues with rooms up to 10' high. Much higher then that and it can be a stretch. It's perfect for doing trim work because the paint can is directly beside you. Plus you can cover more area then you would on a ladder.

It's a standard 2' x 4' with locking wheels. Nothing overly fancy about it. It just gets the job done at a great price. Perfect if you're on a budget or just want something simple. 

This is a collapsible unit which is awesome if you're tight on storage space. Just need to pull the pans off. Fold it down and tuck it away in a closet or another small area. The pans will nest right inside each other and set right with it.

Overall it's a great scaffold and reasonable price!

Mini Folding Steel Scaffold

I haven't personally owned one of these mini folding scaffolds at the house. However, I've used them at work for some time. Many years back I purchased one similar to this. It was blue. I used it to install window treatments commercially. It was an absolute necessity if I wanted to get my work done efficiently. I could easily load it up with blinds and all my tools and wheel it into elevators at commercial job sites or into customers homes. 

It was small enough to easily maneuver to my destination, but not so small that it was useless once I got it there. After I offloaded all the blinds, I used it to hold tools and work from. This was far more organized then the alternative.

The shelves are also adjustable which is nice. I would lower them all the way to the bottom so I could pack it full of blinds. Then after I had unloaded everything I would adjust the shelves up to work from. The shelves are also close enough that you don't have to worry about something falling down between them.

The wheels lock and are sturdy enough to hold on an incline/decline. So there is no need to worry about the cart running away from you and hitting something in a clients home.

One of the best features about this mini folding scaffold was when I was finished using it I could fold it down and store it in a small area of my work van. Once it's folded down it's only about 4 1/2 inches deep. I would nest the pans inside each other and slide them right up next to it.

Overall the scaffold worked hard for me and lasted for years. No real complaints and zero regrets on my purchase.
